Today’s lineup: DeWitt leads off

He isn’t much of a basestealing threat, but he did have a respectable .344 OBP last year, so Joe felt comfortable putting him in the leadoff spot so he didn’t have to disrupt the rest of the lineup. Wonder if that means Brad Ausmus is going to hit fifth tomorrow night. … By the way, Delwyn Young is going to start his rehab tomorrow at ABQ. He’ll DH in the first game, then play the outfield on Saturday. Both games are at home against Omaha. The minor-league season starts today for full-season leagues.

SS DeWitt
2B Hudson
LF Ramirez
RF Ethier
C Martin
1B Loney
CF Kemp
3B Blake
LH Kershaw

I like this line up. The only thing I want to know is why Manny is hitting 3rd this season? Either did so well in front of him last year. I know he will still get some good pitches hitting behind him, but I think he benefits much more from being in front. I realize Manny gets more at-bats this way throughout the course of the season, but think the chance at having Either hit the speed demons in or be on base when Manny comes up is worth the line-up change.

I am glad that we kept Dewitt on the roster instead of Hu. I commented on the idea of having Dewitt play short stop instead of Kuo early on in Spring Training. Having a guy that plays hard and another left handed bat in the line-up can always help. I hope he gets a good amount of playing time this year, because I think he needs it to develop into the player that he can be.

Russell Martin is not seeing the ball well right now. I still wonder about his place in the 5th slot. Kemp is a better slugger than Martin and should be placed at the 5 while Martin hits 7th. The 7th spot is also a good place with players who have high OBP, such as Martin.

Some interesting sabermetrics analysis, however, suggests that it doesn’t really matter where players hit. I think there’s some credence to that.

Tony… you were saying about the bullpen? ;)

Simply pathetic. Tying run on third with no outs and not one fly ball to the outfield? It’s Heath Bell, not Bob Gibson.

I knew the D’s were in trouble the moment Ohmen came in and they flashed the graphic on the screen regarding the Dodger’s bullpen not giving up an ER this season…

How many times does that seem to happen?
