The Dodgers got an RBI-single from Russell Martin in the eighth inning to beat the New York Mets 2-1 and complete a three-game sweep. Jeff Weaver started and rookie Brent Leach got his first major-league win. The Dodgers have the best record in baseball at 29-13 and extended their NL West lead over San Francisco to 8 1/2 games.

Jill,

If this is what this blog is going to become, simple statements that are obvious to anyone who follows the team, then you just might as well shut this thing down.

Agreed. What's the point of it now?

If, as I was assured, the Daily News is still sending staff to Dodger Stadium when the Dodgers are at home, then please give us whatever inside track information you glean there. It would be appreciated. Or if you're first with the facts, great - let us know. If you're just going to tell us who won the game, or the headline of some press release already disseminated in full detail at 10-20 other places, what's the point? Do you think there's a single person who comes here who is not a Dodger fan who knows these stale headlines already?
