Dodgers sign draftees, Estes retires

The Dodgers announced today that they have signed 23 of their picks from last week’s MLB draft, including fourth-rounder Mario (Angelo) Songco of nearby Loyola Marymount. The full list is at the LA Times‘ Dodger Thoughts blog here. There are still 28 unsigned selections, but you can bet on the Dodgers signing at least a few more.

Diamond Leung of Diamond Notes reports that Dodgers’ Triple-A lefthander Shawn Estes has retired. Estes was a non-roster invitee to spring training with an out clause that he could exercise if he didn’t make the Opening Day roster. He chose not to and actually performed quite well in Albuquerque: a 3-4 record and 3.07 ERA in 73 1/3 innings in his age-36 season.

More from Anaheim later.
