THE BARE ESSENTIALS:

The Dodgers ran into a buzz saw tonight in Seattle ace Felix Hernandez, who gave up just one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in eight impressive innings.

Ken Griffrey Jr. hit a two-run home run in the third inning off Dodgers starter Eric Milton. It was Griffey’s 620th career home run.

The Dodgers scored their only run in the third inning, and it was unearned when Rafael Furcal scored from third on a fielding error by Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki.

Milton wasn’t terrible, striking out seven over five innings while giving up four runs, but on a night when Hernandez was as dominant as he was it would have taken a perfect effort from Milton to win.

ETC…ETC.

Eh, sometimes you just have to tip your cap and move on to the next game. With Felix Hernandez dealing the way he was, it was an uphill battle from the get-go for the Dodgers.

To make room for Milton on the 25-man roster, the Dodgers optioned right-hander Cory Wade to Triple-A Albuquerque.
