The Dodgers hired Gerry Hunsicker as Senior Advisor, Baseball Operations on Thursday, adding another veteran baseball mind to their growing front office.
According to the team’s official announcement, Hunsicker will “assist GM Ned Colletti and President and CEO Stan Kasten with the Dodgers’ big league club while also lending his expertise to international scouting and development, pro scouting and minor league development.”
Hunsicker was the Houston Astros’ general manager from 1995 until he stepped down in 2004. A year later, the Astros made their first world series appearance. In November 2005, Hunsicker became the Tampa Bay Rays’ senior VP, baseball operations, a job he’s held until now.
Hunsicker, 62, still lives in Houston.
Kasten recently expressed a desire to add “more voices” to the team’s front office, whose ranks had been stripped under former owner Frank McCourt. The Dodgers haven’t had anyone in Hunsicker’s position since Bill Lajoie was Senior Advisor to the GM from 2006-08.
Since August, the Dodgers have hired Hunsicker, Renata Simril (Senior Vice President, External Affairs), Rafael Gonzalez (Director of Community Relations) and Janet Marie Smith (Senior VP of Planning and Development).
