Daily Distractions: Fernandomania, Bonds’ mansion on the block, RIP to one of ‘Their Own.’

Did you hear that buzz coming from the south Sunday?

That was the sound of Fernando Valenzuela being inducted into the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame. MLB.com reported that Jaime Jarrin and former Dodgers infielder Juan Castro were there for Sunday’s ceremony in Sonora, but Tommy Lasorda, who has a cold, was not.

Valenzuela has a long and storied relationship with his hometown. So this was kind of a big deal.

The induction ceremony coincided with the four-team Caribbean Series, which concludes Thursday. Dodgers infielder Hanley Ramirez is 2-for-10 with a double in three games for the Dominican Republic entry, which is 3-0 and has the inside track on the championship game.

Ramirez will be back on the field at noon today against Puerto Rico (0-3). He’s been the designated hitter the entire series but is expected to start at shortstop today.

If you’re ready to stop thinking about football, get ready for some baseball links:

RIP Pepper Paire-Davis, a native Angeleno and one of the best baseball players you’ve never heard of (or maybe you have and just didn’t know it).

• I initially balked at the $25 million asking price for Barry Bonds’ mansion in Beverly Hills, then realized it comes fully furnished. Rumor has it that Bonds has a good eye for leather furniture.

• ESPN.com’s Keith Law ranks all 30 farm systems and puts the Dodgers 18th. You might recall that last week MLB.com only ranked three Dodgers prospects among the majors’ top 100; Law writes that the Dodgers have “a lot of guys who’d either be in the next 50 or who could jump into the top 50 next year.” He ranks the St. Louis Cardinals number one.

• As Kevin Millwood retires, Scott Kazmir attempts to come back. Some Kevin Millwood trivia: He’s the last starting pitcher to no-hit the Dodgers. You may recall that he needed help from five relievers to seal the deal on June 8.

• Some Pepper Paire-Davis/”A League of Their Own” trivia: This was an actual victory song in the actual AAGPBL, and according to the obituaries circulating today, Davis actually co-wrote it:
