To put the Dodgers’ 6-0 road trip in perspective — a different kind of perspective — consider that the two teams they swept, the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays, had completely winless homestands too.
Before losing three straight to the Dodgers, the Blue Jays were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays.
After losing three straight to the Dodgers, the Washington Nationals lost three straight to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Take nothing away from the six-game winning streak and what it meant in the standings, but the Dodgers’ four-game weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds should provide a more accurate gauge of how well the team is playing.
It begins tonight against a pitcher, Mat Latos, who is 0-5 in his career at Dodger Stadium. Zack Greinke is 6-0 in his career at Dodger Stadium. So there’s a good omen.
Some bullet points for a Thursday morning:
• With both Dodgers pitchers healthy (for now), would the Toronto Blue Jays consider making a trade for Ted Lilly or Chris Capuano? They just lost Brandon Morrow for six weeks. Capuano is scheduled to start Sunday and the non-waiver trade deadline is Wednesday.
• The Dodgers reportedly signed Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero two days ago, but have yet to confirm the deal. Until that happens, check out this scouting report of Guerrero from BaseballAmerica.com.
• Missed this a couple days ago: ESPN has selected the Dodgers-Cardinals game for Monday Night Baseball on August 5 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN as a full national telecast and via the WatchESPN app. The commentators are scheduled to be Dave O’Brien, Aaron Boone, Rick Sutcliffe and Tim Kurkjian.
• And this: ESPN has also selected the Aug. 11 Dodgers-Rays game for its “Sunday Night Baseball” telecast. Dan Shulman, analysts Orel Hershiser, John Kruk and reporter Buster Olney will provide commentary.
