The Dodgers have three finalists for the annual year-end Baseball Writers Association of America awards.

Clayton Kershaw was named one of three finalists for the National League Cy Young Award. He’s a strong favorite after leading the major leagues in earned-run average (1.83) for the third straight season. The left-hander went 16-9 with a NL-leading 232 strikeouts in 236 innings. The St. Louis Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright and the Miami Marlins’ Jose Fernandez are the other finalists for the award.

Kershaw wasn’t among the top three vote-getters for the NL Most Valuable Player Award, guaranteeing a 45-year streak of pitchers getting shut out of the award. Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen and St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina are the MVP finalists.

Fernandez is up against Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig for the NL Rookie of the Year Award. Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller is also a finalist for the award, meaning Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu fell outside the top three in BBWAA voting.

Don Mattingly was nominated for his first Manager of the Year award. He’s up against Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, the favorite for the award, and the Atlanta Braves’ Fredi Gonzalez.

The winners will be announced next week: Rookie of the Year on Monday, Managers of the Year on Tuesday, Cy Young Awards on Wednesday; and MVPs on Thursday.

The winners for each award were determined in September by the BBWAA. The three finalists represent the top three vote-getters in each category.
