The Internet Baseball Writers Association of America was founded here, in the awards capital of the world, so naturally the IBWAA gives out awards at the end of the season. This year there are “finalists” too, just like the BBWAA has “finalists” who really represent the top vote-getters in each category.

The IBWAA has more categories, and more Dodgers, than the BBWAA awards. Clayton Kershaw (National League Cy Young), Yasiel Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu (NL rookie of the year), Don Mattingly (NL manager of the year), and Kenley Jansen (best NL reliever) are all in the running for the virtual awards.

Jose Fernandez and Adam Wainwright are the other Cy Young finalists, same as the BBWAA awards. Fernandez is the other rookie of the year finalist. Aroldis Chapman and Craig Kimbrel are the other finalists for best reliever. Fredi Gonzalez and Clint Hurdle are other manager of the year finalists, (same as the BBWAA.

Winners will be announced as follows:

• Want more awards? The Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Awards will be announced tonight at 3 p.m. today on MLB Network. The two-year-old rival to the Gold Glove Awards are determined “by using a formula that balances scouting information, sabermetric analysis and basic fielding statistics.” There are awards for defensive player of the year and defensive team of the year.

• Ryu staged a charity game in Korea and played a little first base.

Ryu appeared on the mound for 2.2 innings from the 1st-3rd inning, then came back in the 7th for the save. Had a 2-RBI triple in the 5th.

• Quoted for a story about his battle with Jay Z, Ryu’s agent, Scott Boras, said this: “If Steven Spielberg walked into USC Medical Center and said, ‘I want to do neurosurgery,’ they don’t give him a scalpel.”

• There’s a Women in Baseball Leadership Event at the upcoming winter meetings. It includes “tips on how to handle emotions in the workplace.”

• Ryu also received an award in Korea “for his contribution to U.S.-Korea relations and mutual goodwill through sports.”

• MLB.com’s Bernie Pleskoff rates Corey Seager as a five-tool prospect.

• From MLBtraderumors.com: “It seems quite possible that (Clayton) Kershaw will just sign a long-term extension instead, especially given the rumors of a gigantic offer during the season by the Dodgers. However, if not, look for Kershaw to handily break the record of what a third-time eligible starting pitcher earns.”

• This is a long, data-heavy read, but if you’ve got a half-hour, you can learn a lot about the study of Times Through the Order Penalties, and *when* a team’s home-field advantage is most advantageous.

• There were some manager’s challenges in the Arizona Fall League last night. The proposed replay system will work, according to CBSsports.com. That was written Tuesday, before a manager challenged two calls on one play. Joe Torre told MLB.com that there could be tweaks to the quotas on challenges.

• Larry King will be the MC Saturday when Charley Steiner is inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago. Other inductees: Steve Dahl and Garry Meier (Chicago), Blair Garner (Nashville), John Lanigan (Cleveland), Paul W. Smith (Detroit), Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo (Los Angeles) and Powel Crosley Jr. (Cincinnati & Sarasota).
