Last year, colleague Sarah Favot reported that Yasiel Puig‘s popularity was about to cause a surge in eponymous babies. According to Nameberry.com, about 100 boys born in 2003 in the U.S. were named “Yasiel” or “Jasiel.”
This graph from BabyCenter.com tells the story:
In plain English, that’s about 12 babies per million with the name “Yasiel” in 2014, compared to 2 per million in 2012. The name is about to crack the top 300 boys’ names in the U.S. according to the website.
