Report: Bob Welch died as the result of a fall, not a heart attack.

When former Dodgers pitcher Bob Welch died at his Seal Beach home in June, the club said that Welch died of a heart attack.

According to one report Thursday, that’s not the case.

The Orange County coroner’s office told the San Jose Mercury News that Welch died from a broken neck after an accidental fall in his bathroom. A three-month investigation led the coroner to conclude that Welch died “with epidural hemorrhage due to hyperextension of neck,” according to an autopsy report.

Welch broke into the major leagues in 1978 with the Dodgers. He won 211 games in a 17-year career.
