SAN FRANCISCO >> Paco Rodriguez threw a 25-pitch simulated game Friday at AT&T Park, a necessary step before he can be added to the Dodgers’ active roster.

Rodriguez, sidelined since August 3 due to a strained left teres major muscle, faced nine batters:

• Yasiel Puig hit a ground ball to the shortstop position
• Tim Federowicz hit a pop-up down the right field foul line that landed near the visitors’ bullpen
• Erisbel Arruebarrena hit a line drive to left field
• Joc Pederson hit a soft pop-up to shallow left field
• Alex Guerrero hit a bouncer to the shortstop position
• Puig hit a ground ball to the third-base position
• Federowicz hit a line drive to center field
• Pederson saw five pitches, swinging and missing at one, before Rodriguez hit his 25-pitch limit

Update (6:30 p.m.) “Everything went well,” Rodriguez said. “I was able to throw all my pitches for strikes. Everything was sharp.”

Rodriguez said he hasn’t felt any pain in his the affected area just beneath his left arm pit for “about two weeks or so.” The Dodgers’ training staff has given him roughly 48 hours to gauge his response to each pitching session during the rehab process, and Rodriguez thinks this time won’t be any different.

“Hopefully Sunday they’ll activate me,” he said. “Whenever it is, I’ll be ready.”
