Dodgers draft guru Logan White leaves for front-office job in San Diego. Update.

Logan WhiteA source has confirmed that Logan White, the Dodgers’ veteran draft director who selected Matt Kemp, Clayton Kershaw, Joc Pederson and Corey Seager, is leaving Los Angeles for a front-office job with the San Diego Padres. CBSsports.com was the first to report the story Monday morning.

Update (4 p.m.): The Padres have announced White as their new senior advisor to the general manager/pro scouting director. In his role with the Padres, White will be responsible for overseeing all of the organization’s professional scouting efforts and player acquisition at the Major and minor league level, as well as advising the general manager.

Logan has a tremendous track record in the game,” Padres general manager A.J. Preller said in a statement. “The knowledge and experience he brings to our organization strengthens our entire baseball operations staff.”

White interviewed in the summer for the Paders’ general manager vacancy, a job that eventually went to Preller. But both sides were said to have left that interview with a positive impression of each other.

The Dodgers are now in the middle of a regime change themselves. Former GM Ned Colletti is a senior advisor, and longtime farm director De Jon Watson is the assistant to Arizona Diamondbacks GM Dave Stewart. The club is expected to name a new general manager soon.

Andrew Friedman, the club’s new President, Baseball Operations, has offered few specifics about the front office team he hopes to form. Speaking generally at his introductory press conference Oct. 17, Friedman said “I think it’s important to create a really dynamic front office and a group that complements each other really well. We’re going to appreciate the people here who have done a really good job.”

White had been with the Dodgers for 13 seasons. He began overseeing the amateur draft in 2002, when the club selected James Loney with its first overall pick. The draft yielded few impact players for the Dodgers after 2003 — Clayton Kershaw is the standout exception — but some unsigned players (David Price, Paul Goldschmidt) went on to success elsewhere. Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, an 11th-round draft pick in 2008, was traded for Hanley Ramirez. Jerry Sands, Ivan De Jesus and Allen Webster were used to acquire Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett.

White was also part of the Dodgers’ delegation that scouted Yasiel Puig and Julio Urias, among other international prospects. He described leaving the Dodgers as “a tough decision,” according to MLB.com.
