Farhan Zaidi on starters, relievers, middle infield depth.

GM Farhan Zaidi outlined where the Dodgers stand in their pursuit of pitching and middle infield depth in the post Erisbel Arruebarrena era Tuesday:

1. Zaidi is content with the current rotation. That means Kershaw/ Greinke/Ryu/McCarthy/Anderson when healthy. If not? Joe Wieland and Mike Bolsinger are the only in-house candidates Zaidi mentioned.

2. That also means the Dodgers are not interested in signing Max Scherzer or James Shields at current market prices. “You never say never but we have no plans to pursue those guys,” Zaidi said, referring generally to pitchers expected to command a nine-figure salary.

3. Zaidi said he would also listen to teams willing to trade an eighth-inning reliever. Currently J.P. Howell and Joel Peralta are the most proven in-house candidates for that job.

4. Arruebarrena was expendable because of the acquisitions of Jimmy Rollins, Howie Kendrick and Kiké Hernandez. Justin Turner (2B/3B) and Darwin Barney (2B/SS) were also ahead of Arruebarrena on the depth chart.

5. Is it possible Arruebarrena remains in the organization? Zaidi said it depends on whether the 3-5 teams who previously discussed Arruebarrena in a trade are willing to come back to the table.
