Book: Dodgers’ Hyun-Jin Ryu is almost 60 pounds lighter than last year.

Dodgers 2015 media guide

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Dodgers’ media guide was released today. The cover is pictured above. A couple things stood out at a glance:

1. Pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, listed a year ago as 6-foot-2 and 254 pounds, apparently gained an inch and lost 59 pounds. He is now listed at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. Short of any actual proof of Ryu’s weight this year and last, there’s this: I am approximately 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. Ryu is not.

This proves nothing, of course, but here is a picture of Ryu from February …

… and from last October …

Media guides are infamous for exaggerating a player’s height and weight, but usually the year-over-year difference isn’t quite this stark. Ryu has declined to state his weight in the past, so don’t expect a full confession. As long as he pitches well, the Dodgers might just list him at 300 pounds or 150 for all they care.

2. Pedro Mega will manage the Dominican Summer League Dodgers for the ninth straight season. The team didn’t announce this coaching assignment with its other hires over the winter.
