The Dodgers acquired minor-league utilityman Elliot Johnson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.

Johnson appeared in seven games for the Cleveland Indians last season and spent most of the season at Triple-A Columbus, hitting .236 with five home runs in 87 games.

Johnson, 31, signed with the Tampa Bay Rays as an amateur free agent in 2002. He’s played every position except pitcher and catcher over parts of five major league seasons, beginning in 2008. In 318 career games, Johnson has a career .215/.316/.586 slash line.

In 40 Cactus League plate appearances for the Texas Rangers, Johnson slashed .194/.350/.290. He actually led the Rangers with eight walks (compared to 11 strikeouts); he also stole three bases in four attempts.

The reasonable expectation is that Johnson would begin the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
