The Dodgers claimed left-handed pitcher Eury De La Rosa on Thursday. The left-handed pitcher had not allowed an earned run in six innings for the Oakland A’s Triple-A affiliate before he was designated for assignment.
De La Rosa will be assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, pitcher Brandon McCarthy was moved to the 60-day disabled list.
McCarthy is having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow today.
De La Rosa, 25, made 44 relief appearances for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2013-14 and posted a 4.21 ERA (4.30 FIP) in 51 1/3 innings.
His lefty-righty splits with Arizona suggest De La Rosa could be more than a situational reliever. Right-handers own a .259/.333/.440 slash line against him, left-handers .247/.322/.358.
