DENVER — Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is going out on a second minor-league rehabilitation stint Thursday with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. The Quakes will be making a seven-game road trip through Lancaster (Thursday-Sunday) and Modesto (Monday-Wednesday).

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that Puig will play the outfield rather than DH.

“He’s been doing outfield drills and a number of things,” Mattingly said. “Stan (Conte, the Dodgers’ head athletic trainer) said he’s doing more running now than he’ll do in a game.”

Asked if Puig could be activated from the 15-day disabled list sometime next week, Mattingly said, “I would think.”

Puig played two games for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on May 7 and 8, but was forced to leave the second game when he suffered a recurrence of the strained left hamstring that put him on the disabled list to begin with.
