Pitcher Pedro Baez threw off a mound Friday without pain, his first time off a mound since he was placed on the disabled list May 14 with a strained right pectoral muscle, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Baez’s bullpen session “went well,” the manager said, “controlling the velocity and not letting him get too far.”

The right-hander is eligible to return from the disabled list at any time, though he will need a minor-league rehabilitation stint before that happens.

“Hopefully he comes back (without pain) tomorrow and we can continue to move forward,” Mattingly said.

Baez has allowed three earned runs in 15 games over 15 ⅓ innings this season. Among the Dodgers’ current group of healthy relievers, only Kenley Jansen and Yimi Garcia have been used in higher-leverage situations this season than Baez.
