Game 103: Zack Greinke, Dodgers overcome a big game by Mike Trout.

Mike Trout was a thorn in the Dodgers’ side, but the Dodgers had more thorns for Hector Santiago and the Angels on Friday. The box score is here. The photo gallery is here.

Only three of the eight players the Dodgers acquired before the trade deadline were in the building Friday, and none appeared in the game against the Angels, but the roster moves kept coming.

Prior to the game, the Associated Press reported that the Dodgers’ luxury-tax payroll climed to $297 milllion, which would lead to a $43 million luxury tax at the end of the year. The Dodgers are also responsible for $16 million remaining on Hector Olivera‘s $28 million signing bonus.

Justin Turner placed on DL with skin infection.

The Dodgers placed Justin Turner on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to a lingering skin infection on his thigh caused by an ingrown hair.

Turner leads the Dodgers with a .323 batting average this season. Alex Guerrero is starting at third base tonight and will get the “lion’s share” of the starts there until Turner returns, manager Don Mattingly said.

“Alberto (Callaspo), we’ll probably use the same we have in the past: Match up and try to find the right guys for him,” Mattingly said.

Turner won’t be able to work out for a few days, Mattingly said, but is expected back once his 15 days are up.

Clayton Kershaw swaps starting assignments with Zack Greinke.

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will start Saturday against the Angels, swapping spots in the starting rotation with Zack Greinke, who will start tonight.

Manager Don Mattingly stopped short of saying Kershaw had any setback, or even that he couldn’t start tonight.

“He threw yesterday before his event,” Mattingly said, referring to Kershaw’s annual charity ping pong tournament. “We knew he was feeling good but we wanted to make sure and give him an extra day.”

Kershaw declined an interview, saying only that he feels good.

Kershaw has had hip issues in the past. This one “is nothing different from what we’ve dealt with in the past,” Mattingly said, “so we feel good.”

Left-hander Hector Santiago is starting for the Angels tonight. Left-hander Andrew Heaney — whom the Dodgers traded to the Angels last December to get Howie Kendrick — is starting tomorrow.

Trade deadline passes, Dodgers make minor trade.

On Thursday the Dodgers completed a three-team, 13-player trade that is believed to be the largest in franchise history.

On Friday, the Dodgers traded Mike Morse to the Pirates for minor league outfielder Jose Tabata.

Morse was one of the seven players acquired Thursday. The Dodgers immediately designated him for assignment. Tabata figures to report to AAA Oklahoma City.

Dodgers designate four players for assignment to clear room for new acquisitions.

Pitcher Brandon Beachy, pitcher Chin-Hui Tsao, outfielder Chris Heisey and first baseman/outfielder Mike Morse have been designated for assignment in a flurry of moves designed to clear room on their 40-man roster following the three-team megatrade completed earlier today.

Beachy, Tsao and Heisey were all at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Morse was one of the players acquired in the trade that brought Alex Wood, Mat Latos, Jim Johnson, Luis Avilan and minor league utilityman Jose Peraza to Los Angeles.

Per MLB rules, the Dodgers were required to amend their 40-man roster today. They won’t have to adjust their 25-man roster until the new players report, which could be as late as tomorrow afternoon.

The Dodgers play the Angels at 7 p.m. Friday. The non-waiver trade deadline is 1 p.m.
