Dodgers manager Don Mattingly explained prior to Wednesday night’s game why Yasiel Puig is hitting first against the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s the seventh time Puig has batted leadoff this season.

“With the lefty today (Phillies starter Adam Morgan) I wanted to stack the righties and see if it gets us going,” Mattingly said.

Puig has hit sixth, fifth and fourth since the last time he led off a game for the Dodgers. He’s batting .194 (7 for 36) in those 11 games, with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

“I think (Puig) is versatile but I’d like to get him going,” Mattingly said. “That’d be nice.”
