The Dodgers are on the verge of trading infielder Hector Olivera to the Atlanta Braves as part of a three-team trade that would bring Marlins pitcher Mat Latos to Los Angeles, plus Alex Wood and a major league reliever from the Braves — possibly Jim Johnson or Luis Avilan — according to multiple reports Wednesday night:
Dodgers-Braves-Marlins deal if it goes down involves Avilan, Wood, Latos, Morse, Olivera, Peraza #braves #Dodgers #marlins

The Braves have asked the Dodgers about Hector Olivera. He could also be involved if this three-team deal is completed.

Earlier today, it was reported that Latos, outfielder Mike Morse and a compensation-round draft pick in 2016 were going to the Dodgers from the Marlins. Now that appears to be only one piece of a larger trade — certainly consistent with how the current front office has operated since last winter.
The trade deadline isn’t until 1 p.m. Friday. A Dodgers roster with Wood, Johnson and Latos might still change before the dust settles.
Asked a rival executive if he thought #Dodgers’ endgame was Hamels. He replied, “Price.” Unlikely they will stop with this deal.

Earlier today I spoke to Dodgers pitcher J.P. Howell about Price, his former teammate in Tampa Bay. The two are still close and talk regularly. More from him soon.
The biggest name in all of this? Olivera, whom the Dodgers signed to a six-year, $62.5 million contract out of Cuba. He was the Dodgers’ biggest free agent signing coming into the season — not the type of player a team would typically trade in the same year. Olivera is currently rehabbing a hamstring injury in Glendale, Arizona and has yet to play a major league game.
Still unknown is which players the Dodgers are sacrificing in this deal other than Olivera. Single-A pitcher Jeff Brigham was reported earlier today as going to the Marlins, one day after he was pulled from the third inning of his start for Rancho Cucamonga.
And yet, as of this afternoon, a source told me that Brigham still hasn’t been told if he’s being traded. That could mean that Brigham isn’t being traded. That could also mean that the Dodgers’ front office is too busy to return messages.
If the trade deadline is a baseball game, we’re still a long ways from the ninth inning. The early innings have been busy, and we’ll update this blog as it gets busier.
