Dodgers place Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list with a right neck sprain.

The Dodgers shuffled their beleaguered bullpen Tuesday, placing right-hander Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list with a right neck sprain. He talked about the injury prior to tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals:

Garcia figures to get some work right away. Dodger relievers have thrown 14 innings the past four days, forcing manager Don Mattingly to use stalwarts Pedro Baez, J.P. Howell and closer Kenley Jansen in a lopsided 8-3 defeat Monday.

Mattingly said that Garcia has been stretched out to throw up to 50 pitches if needed. With Zack Greinke going tonight against right-hander Joe Ross, the Dodgers hope Garcia won’t need to empty his tank.

Garcia, 24, has gone 3-2 with one save and a 3.99 ERA in 41 appearances during two previous stints with the Dodgers this season. He allowed six runs in four appearances before earning his first demotion just before the All-Star break. Garcia came back and threw a scoreless inning July 28 against the A’s before going to back to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Overall, Garcia is limiting opponents to a .221 batting average with 54 strikeouts in 38 ⅓ major league innings. He’d been struggling recently for Oklahoma City, allowing five earned runs in his last 7 ⅓ innings spanning six appearances.
