Alex Wood said today that he is preparing to pitch out of the bullpen in Games 1 through 3 of the National League Division Series against the New York Mets, and maybe beyond.
Pedro Martinez endorses this idea.
The Hall of Fame pitcher, speaking on a conference call with other TBS broadcasters on Wednesday morning, was thinking along the same lines of the Dodgers’ staff for their middle relief innings.
“I think they have to pull one of those starters that is used to pitching in those middle innings to try to get righties and lefties out,” Martinez said. “If they can pull one of those starters, they can build a bridge to get to (closer Kenley) Jansen.”
Martinez is a studio analyst for TBS, which holds the right to the entire first round of National Legaue games. The network assigned Ernie Johnson, Ron Darling, Cal Ripken and reporter Sam Ryan to the Dodgers-Mets series.
