Yasiel Puig told police he punched Miami bouncer in ‘self defense.’

Yasiel Puig headshotAccording to a written report filed by a Miami Police officer, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig claimed he was punched in the left eye by a bouncer at the Blue Martini Lounge on Wednesday night. That preceded Puig punching the bouncer in the face, an act that was captured on video.

Miami police do not have the video, which remains property of the Blue Martini Lounge.

Puig claimed in the police report that he punched the bouncer, Anthony Franciscus Garravito, in “self defense” thinking he was going to be punched again. The injuries to Puig (including a swollen left eye) and Garravito are described as “minor” and “superficial.”

The story made the internet rounds Friday, but the police report wasn’t made available in the media until today. The initial report by the celebrity gossip website TMZ claimed that Puig physically assaulted his sister while the two were at the Blue Martini Lounge late Wednesday.

However, Puig’s sister is not mentioned in the written police report. Major Delrish Moss of the Miami PD told us Friday that both Puig and the bouncer claimed that Puig didn’t physically assault his sister, and the two left the night club together.
