GLENDALE, Ariz. — Corey Seager had a smile on his face Friday. The 21-year-old shortstop got four plate appearances in minor league games at Camelback Ranch for the second straight day.

This time, he didn’t embarrass himself. He got a couple hits.

“Yesterday was rough,” he said. “Yesterday was fast. Today the game slowed down more.”

Maybe that’s easy to say when you don’t have to run, as was the case for Seager after each of his hits. But he did run the bases at full speed before the game and reported no pain in his sprained left knee.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that “I think in the next few days I would see him in a major league game.”

Saturday marks two weeks since Seager suffered the sprain running the bases and was given a 1-2 week timetable for recovery. So, he’s basically on schedule.

Seager said his next step would be to run after he hits. The next step would be for him to play the field, though he might debut as a designated hitter initially.

“It was a step forward today,” he said.
