Zach Lee was ruled out of the Dodgers’ fifth-starter competition last night by manager Dave Roberts, but the right-handed pitcher has joined the team in Los Angeles for the Freeway Series.

Kenta Maeda is scheduled to start against the Angels tonight. Alex Wood is scheduled to start Saturday in Anaheim. It’s unknown known if Lee will start in place of either pitcher, but doing so might indicate the Dodgers are changing their rotation plans for the first week of the season.

Lee last pitched Saturday, when he threw 4 ⅔ innings against the Chicago White Sox in a Cactus League game at Camelback Ranch. He allowed eight hits and two runs in the Dodgers’ 5-4 win.

Lee was optioned to the Dodgers’ minor league camp on March 20, but he doesn’t have to be formally recalled from the minors to join the team before Opening Day.

Update (5:00 p.m.): Lee will pitch in relief of Alex Wood on Saturday in Anaheim, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.
