The Dodgers will begin the season with $222 million invested in its Opening Day 40-man roster, according to USA Today. That figure doesn’t include the signing bonuses, salaries and buyouts owed players not on their 40-man roster like Matt Kemp, Bronson Arroyo, Hector Olivera and Erisbel Arruebarrena.

Only the New York Yankees have a higher Opening Day payroll according to the report, at $223 million. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw ($33 million) is listed as the highest-paid player in the game this year. This is the third season of the 7-year, $215 million extension he signed in January 2014.
