Dodgers begin season by pitching 31 scoreless innings, one shy of a record.

SAN FRANCISCO — Alex Wood allowed a run in the fifth inning Thursday against the San Francisco Giants, ending the Dodgers’ pursuit of the most consecutive scoreless innings pitched to begin a season at 31.

The St. Louis Cardinals set a major league record by throwing 32 scoreless innings to begin the 1963 season.

The Dodgers began the regular season with three straight shutout victories over the San Diego Padres. They are were outscoring opponents 28-0 when the streak ended.
