Dodgers sign Sean Burnett to minor-league contract.

SAN FRANCISCO >> The Dodgers signed left-handed pitcher Sean Burnett to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Burnett, 33, spent spring training with the Washington Nationals but didn’t make the Opening Day roster despite not allowing a run in nine appearances. The Dodgers have only one southpaw in their major league bullpen, J.P. Howell, and two others on the 40-man roster stationed at Triple-A: Luis Avilan and Adam Liberatore.

Burnett has pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals and Angels in a career that began in 2004 and was nearly derailed by arm injuries. He didn’t pitch in the majors last season.
