ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Dodgers outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke will resume baseball activities by the end of this week, possibly Friday, manager Dave Roberts said. Van Slyke hasn’t been able to throw or hit since he was placed on the disabled list April 9 with irritation in his lower back.

Van Slyke projects to return to the Dodgers no sooner than the early part of June, following the completion of his rehab and a few minor league games.

“That’s a best-case scenario for me,” Roberts said.

Van Slyke had one hit, a double, in nine at-bats prior to his injury.

Alex Guerrero (knee) continues to play extended spring training games.

When the Dodgers enjoy a day off in Toronto tomorrow, left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) and Brandon McCarthy (elbow) will throw bullpen sessions in Los Angeles.
