Jose De Leon’s first start in two months is perfect.

Dodgers pitching prospect Jose De Leon returned to the mound with Triple-A Oklahoma City today, and his performance suggested no trace of the right shoulder injury that kept him on the disabled list for more than two months.

De Leon faced the minimum nine hitters in his predetermined three-inning start against the Round Rock Express. The right-hander struck out six batters, including former major leaguers Justin Ruggiano, Ike Davis and Joey Gallo. De Leon threw 37 pitches, 26 for strikes (12 swinging).

Like fellow right-hander Frankie Montas (who pitches Thursday), the Dodgers might have the option to summon De Leon to the majors quickly if they had him pegged for a bullpen role. However, those conversations aren’t taking place on the front burner if they are taking place at all. The Dodgers are hurting for starting pitching depth, and De Leon figures to build up his pitch count before he’s in discussions for a call-up.

De Leon threw five shutout innings in his debut on May 3, after which he was shut down with shoulder inflammation. Last year, his first full season at Double-A, De Leon went 2-6 with a 3.64 ERA in 76 ⅔ innings for the Tulsa Drillers. A 24th-round pick in the 2013 draft, De Leon participated in his first major league spring training with the Dodgers this year.
