Dodgers 5, Marlins 3
The pen got it done again. Tomko gave up a pinch-hit, two-run shot to the struggling Mike Jacobs, closing the gap to 4-3, but Jonathan Broxton got four outs, stranding the tying run on second in the seventh, and Takashi Saito pitched the ninth, preserving the win. Wilson Valdez, getting a rare start on all-righty day against Willis, went 2 for 5 with two bunt singles, one of which drove in a desperately needed insurance run in the ninth, and also scored on Tomko's suicide squeeze in the fourth. Andy LaRoche drew three walks. Juan Pierre, the fastest guy on the Dodgers' roster, went 0 for 5 with five flyball outs. Dodgers go to 20-14

TJ-I think I have seen enoigh of Pierre not producing with the bases juiced. Grady needs to sit him tomorrow, especially since we all almost had heart failure when he almost misplayed MCab's liner.

what would the dodgers have to lose exactly (in defensive value) if they put Ethier or Matt Kemp in CF?
Arm Strenght: big gain
speed: loss
route running: Maybe on par with Kemp but Ethier takes the best routes to the ball .
offensive output- huge gain.
so basically what im trying to say is, even though juan pierre is a stand up guy, i can't stand him on my favorite team.

First of all, JP didn't misplay that ball. He was simply playing too shallow against a hitter as strong as Cabrera. One of my colleagues and I noticed it in the press box at least two pitches before that play. Frankly, I'm amazed he got to the ball to catch it. But again, bad route, bad position, whatever it was, it was still BAD. As for the other thing, my guess is you're eventually going to see (maybe later this year, maybe next year) JP in left field, Kemp in center and Ethier in right. For now, I say ride Gonzo as long as he is still productive (could be all year), then move him to the bench as a LHH.

The big difference I saw in tonight's game was that Broxton came out throwing fastballs instead of sliders (especially in Uggla's at-bat). Way too many sliders last night for him and thats why Uggla ended up walking. Not tonight, it was the heater and too much of it for free-swinging-sophomore-slumping-Uggla
