Advantage Padres?

In the final 48 hours leading up to tomorrow night's opener of a key, three-game showdown between the Dodgers and the Pods at Petco, consider the difference between the two teams' schedules. The Padres played a regular Sunday getaway game at the Toilet Bowl yesterday, then jetted cross country from DC and, I'm guessing, got home around 9 p.m. because of the time change, slept in their own beds, had today off and will sleep in their own beds again tonight. The Dodgers? They played a Sunday game in Pittsburgh yesterday, but it wasn't a getaway game. They play the Pirates again tonight at 7:05 Eastern time, after which they probably will get airborne around midnight Eastern. Assuming it's a five-hour flight to San Diego, and factoring in the time change, the Dodgers should touch down around 2 a.m. and get to their hotel around 3 Pacific time. Then, tomorrow night, they will begin their biggest series of the season to date. Just a thought.

Very good point. I mean it's fine that we're playing the 4th game of a series today, but why not have it be an afternoon game? I really don't understand how the schedule makers wouldn't force the Pirates to have this one be a businessman's special so we can get out at a reasonable hour. They certainly didn't do us any favors on this.

Now I would assume tomorrow's starter Jason Schmidt is probably already there and will be able to get a good night sleep?

Yes, Jason Schmidt has already flown to San Diego, or is en route or something like that. He will be well-rested, even if the guys playing behind him aren't. The amazing thing about this night getaway game is that the PIRATES THEMSELVES ARE LEAVING TOWN AFTER THE GAME. They're only going to Washington, but still, their decision to play this one at night is curious on all levels

As much as I would love for the Dodgers to have a 10 game lead on the division, its so much more fun when all the teams are good. The rivalry with the Pods the last few years has been great and makes it a great series to watch.
