As advertised
This has been a pitcher's duel of the highest order, and the Dodgers just got a dose of bad luck when Juan Pierre smoked a ball into the glove of Mets 3B David Wright to end the third with runners on first and second. Penny has allowed three hits, including a one-out double by Shawn Green that led to the game's only run in the first inning. Tony Abreu, who was 0 for 11 to that point, singled sharply up the middle with one out in the third, the Dodgers' only hit so far off Jorge Sosa. Sosa has seven groundball outs already. Pierre just made a nice, backtracking catch on a ball that Carlos Beltran absolutely smoked to begin the fourth. Wright followed with a bloop single into shallow center. Mets 1, Dodgers 0, top 4

Tony,
Have you spoken to any Dodger personnel that are worried about Martin having a LoDuca-2nd-half-meltdown from playing too much this half of the season?
Martin just appears tired. Vin always mentions this when Martin backhands a ball in the dirt. Just wondered if my worries were shared by others.

On a separate note, Edwin Jackson got killed by the Pads (gave up 5 runs and only got 1 out) to go to 0-8 with a 8.20 ERA. How he has fallen. Too bad, the Dodgers couldn't go back in time and trade him for Zito like was rumored after E.Jackson whupped up on the Big Unit in 2003.
(Yes, I know Zito is overrated, but even an additional security guard to fetch beachballs would be better than Jackson is now.)

Tony,
I know people will say this team got hot after the grady closed door meeting. But also i feel it has a lot to do with Loney and Kemp being called up. Being added to Betemit, Ethier and Abreu they have brought a lot of energy to this lineup and in some ways an aggressiveness that Kent/Nomar hadn't been provided. The kids are out playing the vets.
With all the trade talk of late for Dunn, Texeira and Dye, it would be a shame to trade the kids away. What are the chances that Little/Ned stop making this just an experiment and the kids take over for good? Is that even being considered?
It has worked for the Dbax, why can't we do it?

The reason the DBacks are competing is definitely not because of their young players. Its because of their vets (Unit, Davis, Byrnes, Hudson, & Webb). Their top young players thrust into starting roles all are hitting below .250 (Quentin, Drew, Young, Hairston, & Montero). As such, giving away starting spots to rookies is not the answer.
Calling up Abreu, Loney, Kemp, and Kuo was a great decision-making, but playing time should be mixed with the vets. It keeps everyone motivated and allows us to play match-up baseball better than any other team.
