Yes, I'm still alive ...
... but no, I'm not at the game. Had airline problems getting here today, so we hired a guy named Paul Willis, whom I used to work with at the Rocky Mountain News back in the late '90s, to cover the game for us tonight. I'll be back at it tomorrow. The news on D-Lowe was no news at all, with the MRI results not known yet, apparently. And Randy Wolf was with the club, but no decision has been made yet on whether he'll need a second rehab start. I have the game on in my hotel room. Dodgers are leading 5-3, bottom 7, but it is starting to smell like a game that might get away. Meanwhile, I'm going to relax the rest of the evening. See you tomorrow.

Before you relax too much, can we agree this injury is on the manager. Unbelievable. There was zero reason for Penny to hit for himself after that sixth inning. It's raining, for God's sake, and the guy barely made it through the previous inning. Just plain reckless.
On the bright side, at least Little can play Martin another 10 or 12 straight without a break. That'll make him happy.
I'm pissed.

Does it really take this long to get an MRI result in Denver? Does the altitude affect the machine or the radiologist?
Or does Ned want the news held back because he has something in the works?
Did I mention I'm pissed?

i agree BS. I posted that in the thread below earlier. Penny had a rought 6th and was at 90 pitches. There was no reason for him to be in the game. Especially with Broxton and Saito rested as well as Beimel being somewhat rested.
Who knew Grady Little would make a bad pitching decision?

Meanwhile, the Padres are falling apart as well. Young's hurt, Peavy's been mediocre, Germano awful, Wells up and down. Offense sucks too. 90 wins takes the West.

I completely disagree. Brad Penny is the Dodgers #1 pitcher, the ace of the moment. It is no way unreasonable to plan to send him back out for the 7th with a very good chance that he can complete it and only be at 105 pitches, a very reasonable pitch count.
The bullpen is not THAT rested, Saito is coming back from having pain, this was game 1 of a four game series IN DENVER, a park that usually causes fits for pitching staffs, humidor or no humidor, and the next three starters are Tomko ('nuff said), Billingsley (another CG? 5 innings? But a great young talent.) and Hendrickson (went 6 2/3 once - giving up 5 ER - and 6 once this season, plan on 5 and a fraction if things go well). Tonight is not when I want to start running through the pen.

Has everyone forgotten that Penny's batting .293 so far this year, and that he went 2 for 3 last night? Anytime there's a guy on your team swinging like that - I don't care if he happens to be your pitcher - you put a bat in his hands and send him to the plate. I think Grady made his decision based on Penny's hitting skill.
