Sorry about the no blogging yesterday. Just needed a break. Anyway, the Dodgers sent minor-league infielder Travis Denker to the Giants to complete the Mark Sweeney trade. Denker hit .294 with 27 doubles, 10 homers and 57 RBI at Single-A Inland Empire this season. He was originally a 21st-round draft pick in 2003 and was playing in high Single-A for the third year in a row, so he didn't have a prominent place on the organizational radar.
Tony Jackson is in his fourth season covering the Dodgers for the Daily News, his eighth season as a full-time Major League Baseball beat writer and his 13th season covering MLB on regular basis. He is a native of Springdale, Ark., and a graduate of the University of Arkansas, although he refuses to root for the Razorbacks again until Frank Broyles is finally out of there. Tony is single and has a daughter who lives in Colorado. His hobbies include working out, reading and taking winter vacations with his daughter to non-MLB cities, usually in Mexico or the Caribbean. Denker should be no big loss considering we have Hu and Abreu far ahead of him on the food chain.
BTW, Kershaw pitched his second consecutive great game last night for Jax (took a no-hitter into the 7th and ended up striking out 10). This kid will be AMAZING.
