Colletti: Torre not a done deal

The Dodgers GM said he also is compiling a list of potential managerial candidates, although that presumably is only a fallback in the event the Torre thing falls through, which it doesn't look like it's going to. But that doesn't mean it's a lock.
``I have watched the last 72 hours, and I can't believe what I'm watching,'' Colletti said. ``I'm telling you, we do not have an agreement, and I have seen more inaccuracy (in the media) than I can ever remember. ... I don't ever classify anything as close or far. It's either done or it's not done, and it's not done.''
That having been said, Colletti was speaking early in the day and cautioned that things could definitely change later today. He didn't specify what that meant, but he didn't have to. It's getting very difficult to imagine that Joe Torrey won't be the next manager of the Dodgers, and it's somewhat difficult to imagine that we won't know that by the end of the day or early tomorrow.
Stay tuned. Or, if you would rather, go and do something else for a while and check back later. I wish I had that option.

Tony, do you think guys like Loney, Kemp and Billingsley have to prove themselves all over again or should they be locked in as starters?

Tony i wish i had your option. Im sure you get tired of it after so many years of doing it but I envy your job. Instead of me sitting here watching ESPNEWS all day I have to go to class. There is nothing more exciting then listening to a 74 year old woman talk about Economics! Especially when she keeps reiterating that my Generation will be doomed with financial debt for most of our lives if the USA doesn't collapse by then anyways.

The fact that this is coming straight from Ned leads me to think it's true. I bet it will get done within the day though and be announced before the end of the week.

Marcel, I hope to God they don't have to prove themselves again but it would make sense. Loney had to do it again last year. I think Bills is locked in though. He was our best pitcher down the stretch last year. In fact those 3 guys were arguable our best players in the second half last year.

Tony, this Torre news is all fine and good but if they dont add a legitimate power hitter (insert ARod here) into the everyday lineup this team is going to be in the same exact spot! Do you honestly think McCourt will finally bring in that marquee guy?? I still don't have a lot of faith that he will make that sort of long term financial commitment to bring in a star player! Do you think this is the year he finally does?

Also Tony, do you buy the whole deal about Grady quiting and Ned looking for a replacement while Grady was still on contract? I don't. It's just doesn't make sense to me especially after reports are saying that Grady was left in the dark about this. Doesn't seem like a good way to do business to me.

Simply, Colettii cannot say there's any sort of a deal because then the Dodgers will be violating MLB's "must interview minorities" rule. (See: Yankees interview Pena even though the entire free world knew either Girardi or Mattingly was getting that job.)

Of course, that could mean that Ned could phone J.A. Adande and call it a day ...

Marcel - Uh, they "proved" they could go 0-7 vs. Colorado the last week and a half ...

LAprGuy - Those are the LAST guys any sane fan would point to as the reason for the Dodgers' collapse against Colorado.

Bottom line, they're great young players who cemented their status throughout the year and should remain starters regardless of the new regime.

Is LAPRguy Jeff Kent?

Um anyways, if those guys aren't starting next year I won't watch this team. That would be insane, especially after what took place this year. Why is it SO hard to trust young guys who have performed well. WHY?

LAprGuy is really KENT_GONZOprGuy.

Isn't Joe Torre an Italian American? Wouldn't he be considered a minority candidate? Just wondering.

Saw Brad Penny commenting on this on the news. Umm...I dont like how long this is taking.
