NY Post: Torre agrees to three-year, $14.5 million deal

It is well past midnight (yes, I do sleep, just not that much), far too late to get anything else in for tomorrow's paper, but the New York Post is now reporting that Torre has agreed to terms with the Dodgers on a three-year, $14.5 million deal that could be announced on Thursday. I'm not vouching for the validity of this report, just pointing out the fact that it's out there. Says, as I posted earlier, that Torre is likely to bring bench coach Don Mattingly and third-base coach Larry Bowa with him, and that he might also bring Jose Cardenal, one of his coaches with the Yankees several years ago, as well. That would be great, as I developed a very close friendship with Jose when I was covering the Reds and he was on Bob Boone's staff there as 1B coach, and he is one of my favorite people I have ever met in this game. ... Looks like that's all the news that's fit to print tonight (or, if you prefer, this morning). I'm hitting the sack (finally), all the while anticipating a third consecutive day of being made a prisoner in my own home by this seemingly never-ending story ... but hey, it beats working for a living. Good night, all.

Thanks Tony for the late night report. As a Dodger season ticket holder, I am highly excited (and of course, prepared to cough up much more dinero next season for tickets) at the prospects of Torre and hopefully, A-Rod calling Chavez Ravine their new home... This would certainly shift the sports landscape in Southern California..... A quick question Tony... Aren't teams required to interview a minority as part of the managerial search process... How would the Dodgers handle this ? Thanks Tony and I look forward to a very exciting off season of hot stove madness.... Perhaps more trades with the relatively slim crop of quality free agents, will take place soon.

TJ-Thanks for all the updates, great coverage you can't get anywhere else! One things for sure, you're going to have plenty to write about during Hot Stove and next season.

Great work Tony, I don't think we can really express our appreciation like we should be we really appreciate your work.

Hopefully this ends this and we move on to making some smart baseball moves. I bet Andy Pettite is in Dodger Blue next season...

Great Work Tony! Being in NY, this Torre stuff is everywhere but you are the best most reliable source on the Dodgers end. Most of the NY papers inside Dodger info. has to be taken with a grain of salt. Thanks so much!

Good morning everyone, and thanks for the great comments (and compliments). Nothing new so far today, but the day is young. As for the minority interviewing requirements, I think the Dodgers will be able to get around those by the simple fact that they have so much diversity in their front office, including several high-ranking positions in baseball operations (Kim Ng, DeJon Watson, Vance Lovelace, Toney Howell, Acey Kohrogi), so I don't think it'll be an issue

Tony, this Torre news is all fine and good but if they dont add a legitimate power hitter (insert ARod here) into the everyday lineup this team is going to be in the same exact spot! Do you honestly think McCourt will finally bring in that marquee guy?? I still don't have a lot of faith that he will make that sort of long term financial commitment to bring in a star player! Do you think this is the year he finally does?
