Media conference call with Joe (and I assume Ned and possibly Frank) at 4

Joe Torre, the man who guided the New York Yankees to playoff appearances in each of the past 12 seasons before rejecting a one-year contract offer last month, has officially been named the next manager of the Dodgers. Torre will be formally introduced in a press conference on Monday at Dodger Stadium.
Torre signed a three-year contract reportedly worth just more than $13 million. The Yankees had offered him a one-year, $5 million contract with up to $3 million in incentives based on how far the club advanced in the playoffs.
Torre, 67, takes over a club coming off a disappointing fourth-place finish in the National League West, and he takes the reins from Grady Little, who resigned two days ago following his second season at the helm.
Torre is expected to bring at least two of his Yankees coaches with him in bench coach Don Mattingly, whose son Preston is a highly regarded Dodgers infield prospect, and third-base coach Larry Bowa. Former Yankees coaches Lee Mazzilli and Jose Cardenal also are possibilities to join Torre's Los Angeles staff. Another name that might come into play is former Cincinnati manager Dave Miley, who has ties to Torre as the Yankees' Triple-A manager the past two seasons as well as ties to Dodgers assistant general manager DeJon Watson dating to Watson's days as the Reds' scouting director.
The news comes as a surprise to no one. Speculation that Torre would take over began well before Little resigned. Joe Girardi, who replaced Torre as manager of the Yankees earlier this week, was also close to reaching an agreement to manage the Dodgers last week before it ultimately became clear he was headed to the Yankees.
Torre led the Yankees to 10 division titles, six American League pennants and four World Series titles, each of which came in his first five seasons managing the club. Torre has managed in the majors for 27 seasons, including previous stops with the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.
