Furcal in midseason form
The Dodgers shortstop went 10 for 25 with a home run, five runs and four RBI for Aguilas in the Caribbean World Series in Santiago, D.R. That would seem to indicate that he has no lingering effects from the ankle injury that plagued him all of last season after he had that near-collision with Jason Repko in a Grapefruit League game against Baltimore in Vero Beach. ... Also, the Dodgers are close to filling their Triple-A hitting coach vacancy, which was created when Mike Easler was promoted to big-league hitting coach after Don Mattingly stepped aside. John Moses, who spent 11 seasons in the majors as a role player and later was a first-base coach for both Seattle and Cincinnati, is believed to be the frontrunner for the job.

Tony Jackson has covered the Dodgers for the Daily News since 2004 and has covered Major League Baseball on a regular basis since 1995. He previously covered the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds. He is a native of Springdale, Ark., and a graduate of the University of Arkansas.

Thank you guys, as always, for your comments. I feel like a kid at the end of summer vacation, with the first day of school looming in a couple of days. There are a lot of late nights, 6 a.m. flights, bad press box meals and less-than-civil conversations with ballplayers awaiting me in these next several months. But even after all these years, I still get excited when the time actually comes to head South. Keep the comments coming

Hy TJ. I don't know if I can get this comment to you. I just wanted to say that a healthy Furcal means maybe 10 Dodger victories.
