Single-game tickets on sale Saturday

This is just a cut-and-paste of the Dodgers' official release

LOS ANGELES – Single game tickets for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 50th Anniversary season will go on sale this Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. Dodger Stadium’s Sunset Gate will open at 8 a.m. and fans who arrive by 8:30 a.m. receive a numbered wristband for the ticket lottery. Those with wristbands will get the first opportunity to purchase single-game tickets for Opening Day and all 81 regular season games. A number will be drawn at random, and that number will be first in line. Thus there is no advantage to coming earlier. There will be a limited number of Opening Day tickets for sale and a purchase limit of four tickets per fan will apply.

In addition to coming to Dodger Stadium, fans can purchase tickets by visiting www.dodgers.com, by calling 866-DODGERS or by visiting any Ticketmaster Ticket outlets. Dodger fans can secure their Opening Day tickets through a pre-On Sale, tomorrow, February 27, through two new ticket package offers. A six-game package for seats in the ampm All-You-Can-Eat Right Field Pavilion, that includes Opening Day, can be purchased starting at $170. An eight-game package in the Reserve Level that also guarantees Opening Day can be bought with prices starting at $80.

In addition to individual game tickets, the Dodgers offer season tickets plans, partial season ticket packages and several different mini-plans. The Dodgers will continue to offer the popular 2-for-2 season ticket plan (purchase two season seats in Loge Box and Lower Reserve selected areas and get an adjoining pair for free) and the half-price Coca-Cola Value 12-packs. The Dodgers also offer 27-game Fielder’s Choice packages and 22-game Grand Slam and Perfect Game packages in addition to three 15-game packages. Every package includes Opening Day with the exception of the Coca-Cola Value packs. These ticket packages are available today and can be purchased by calling 866-DODGERS.

Fans can be the first to experience the new Baseline Box Clubs during the 50th Anniversary season. Full and half-season packages that include access to the new clubs located at first and third-base sides are available now. All Premium Baseline Box packages feature seating in the Hollywood Bowl style seats, a high-end buffet that includes unlimited food and non-alcoholic beverages, and Preferred Parking passes. For further details contact Dodgers’ Premium Seating at 323.224.1320 or premiumtix@ladodgers.com.

Dodger sales staff will be on hand Saturday to sign fans up for any of the many ticket plans offered for the 2008 season. Dodger fans will be allowed into Dodger Stadium at 8 a.m. through the Sunset Gate located at the intersection of Elysian Park and Stadium Way. One wristband will be distributed to each person at 8:30 a.m. and the On Sale will begin at 10 a.m. Former Dodgers “Sweet” Lou Johnson, Bobby Castillo, Kenny Landreaux, and Rudy Law will be at the On Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a fan meet and greet and to sign autographs.

The Dodgers open the 2008 regular season at home on March 31 against the San Francisco Giants at 1:10 p.m., the first of 81 home dates that include more than 40 promotional events and giveaways. The entire 50th Anniversary promotional schedule will be available at www.dodgers.com.

Tony, the way your article today (2/26) is written, I must infer that you believe Juan Pierre full-time is a done deal and that the only battle is in RF. As a Dodger fan, I simply cannot accept that that decision is already set in stone.

And when JP does play, Torre better pull a LaRussa and bit him 9th, after the pitcher.

To add to what Dave said, I refuse to believe that Kemp will be sharing time. He is far too talented and like Torre mentioned the other day, the potential has to play.

If you look at this team and this lineup and the way a lineup is generally structured (each guy fits into it a certain way, and a lot has to do with how all the pieces fit together), if everyone is healthy and productive, this is a better team with Pierre's speed in the lineup. It's not all about each individual player's talent level, a la fantasy baseball. It's about how it all fits together. IMHO, Pierre needs to be in there most of the time

To be honest, Furcal, Martin and Kemp provide more than enough speed (there is potential for 80 steals there combined) for this to be a successful lineup. Then you put Ethier's solid power and on-base skills in place of Pierre, and this is a much more dangerous team.

A vast array of seat deals, too many to count, for sure.
My problem with this?
Some of these people who stand in line for seats, or go online, will promply sell their seats to some legal scalper such as Stub Hub....This has to be stopped.
Seats are expensive enough at face value, on top of parking and rip off concessions.
'Best deal in town', my ass.

TJ you can't honestly believe that. Pierre is an anchor, offensively and defensively period. If he's so valuable how come no one wants him in a trade? The furcal pierre duo is going to be unproductive just as it was last year, even given improvement for furcal.

Tony, Marcel took most of the words right out of my mouth. Pierre's speed would be great IF he would get on base at .360 or better, instead of the below league-average .326, .330, .331 OBPs he's recorded the last three seasons. That speed doesn't help if he's not on-base.

If your leadoff or two guys are on-base below league average, your middle guys have less opportunities to drive in runs.

JP would be killer if he could get on-base like Brett Butler (.377 career). Alas.

"It's not all about each individual player's talent level, a la fantasy baseball. It's about how it all fits together."

Huh? Do you also worry about evil spirits?

"It's not all about each individual player's talent level, a la fantasy baseball."

Ironic that you should say that, given the only type of team that could benefit from having Pierre on it is a fantasy baseball one. All those steals are worth points in fantasy baseball; they're worth practically nothing (just like the rest of Pierre's skill set) in real baseball.

What is it exactly about Pierre's not getting on base, or hitting for power that fits together with something else in a complementary way? Where does the synergy come from? What's the mechanism?

I believe that the combination of maturing young hitters with the return to health of Furcal and the addition of Andruw Jones, and some combination of Nomar/LaRoche at 3B, will lead to a considerable power boost in the Dodger lineup. Among the young hitters, I believe that Ethier playing everyday is capable of hitting 20+ HR. Consequently, my preference is to employ a lineup that will present one power threat after another, leaving opposing pitchers little chance for a breather, and no one to pitch around. Furthermore, having three strong outfield arms (Ethier, Jones and Kemp) will put a damper on teams running at will on the Dodgers. Having two pop-gun arms in the outfield (Pierre and Gonzo) was a major problem for the Dodgers last year.

Pierre, I believe can be more valuable with his speed off the bench in the late innings of games. He also has the potential to bring back some value in a trade, even if that value is payroll relief that allows the Dodgers add a piece that makes a difference at some point during the season.

One other point Tony. Can't "Preview" be fixed? In the meantime, I absolve myself of any responsibility for typos, context/grammatical errors, etc., etc., etc.
