Abreu goes back to Philly doctor

This won't fit in tomorrow's notebook, so I'm putting it here. Tony Abreu went back to the doctor in Philadelphia, Dr. William Meyers, who surgically repaired Abreu's sports hernia last Oct. 3. The visit was scheduled because Tony continues to experience abdominal issues, as well as the right buttocks strain he suffered in the one game he played this spring. Club officials aren't sure how to respond to this because Abreu, according to sources, isn't very good at communicating what he is feeling physically, and that goes way beyond the fact that he doesn't speak much English. At any rate, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the Dodgers need to get a 3B from outside the organization, especially with Nomar still not able to play and with Blake DeWitt having failed to make two plays in today's game, one a liner over his head that he didn't really jump for and the other a hot one-hopper that skipped past his glove and up the line for a double.

No trades!

Hu is a wizard defensive player and could easily play 3rd.

The organization that just plugged Izturis in at 3B a couple seasons ago doesn't think Hu doesn't have the ability to do so?

So DeWitt not making two plays (not errors, mind you, just not robbing hits) is reason to go out and get a third baseman.

When GMs make bad trades, that's usually how it starts: They overreact in the extreme to one or two specific plays, and feel the need to do something about it. You're awfully quick to push the panic button, Tony.

The Dodgers have any number of guys who could play third and hit better than Brandon Inge. Until LaRoche gets back, one of Abreu or Nomar should be healthy by Opening Day, and if not, there's always Hu. All three of those guys are drastically superior players to Inge.

Wow, I butchered the English language there, but you get my drift.

Anyway, I'm sure there's clamoring for a trade because it's more exciting and gives everyone something to talk about.

Geez, guys, get of of Tony's case. He's an emotional guy.

We all know that Ramon Martinez is going to be the Dodgers starting third baseman on Opening Day!

Trade Pierre for Joe Crede!

ThurmanMunsonFlightSchool,

Maybe it's just me, but everytime I see your handle, I'm bothered. In my opinion, it's simply not in very good taste (and certainly not amusing). Obviously you're free to go by any name you choose, and certainly my objections shouldn't cause you to make any changes. I can only hope that my post will result in your thinking about it. Whatever choice you make is yours alone.

Brook: JimLeyritzCabCompany was taken.

I rest my case.

But Leyritz didn't die!

Surely Tony has his tongue firmly planted in his cheek there regarding 3B. DeWitt has not ever been considered a candidate for the job yet; he hasn't even succeeded at AA ball yet (187 PAs, .281 / .306 / .466, more Ks than hits) and obviously is still a work in progress. Therefore his ST success or lack thereof has no bearing on the Dodgers needs.

Eric Enders and scanman33 up above are spot on. (I guess the coaches didn't like what they saw of D. Young trying to field in practice at 3B, or was that never tried?) Nomar is already hitting off a tee and his X-Rays were negative, so his hand/wrist should be plenty fine in time for Opening Day.
