Bad news for Saito, good news for Kent

Saito had been slated to pitch in tonight's game with the Royals, but instead, he was left back at PHX Muni with tightness in his right buttocks. Allegedly, he would have been able to pitch if this were a regular season game, but this is a precaution. Not sure what it means for his schedule the rest of the way, but I'll try to find out. ... Jeff Kent had a good day running sprints on the outfield grass and rounding the bases. He also too batting practice and ground balls. He still has an outside chance of being ready for opening day, so we'll see. ... Beautiful complex here in Surprise.

Joel Rawitch at Inside the other Dodgers says he may be too busy to post today's line-up. If you can do so when you know it, it would be highly appreciated.

We're not going to have to watch that 'phenom' Ethier stumbling around out in RF
again are we?

Give the guy (and my eyes)a break.

Hmmm, could have been headlined "Two Pains in the Ass"....

Bold prediction: Pierre will ground out tonight. A lot. Because that's what he's paid to do.

Not a lot, Marcel. He's not starting.

Just saw the lineup; Pierre isn't playing! VICTORY! VICTORY!

Interesting that these Kansas City announcners, not only haven't see James Loney or Russell Martin play, they're actually admitting it on the air.

They're using phrases like "from what they tell me," and "I haven't seen Martin play but..."

It's interesting to listen to the KC announcers, just generally. You know, talking about their chances this year, and all. Turns out Paul Splittorff is one of the guys.

And a damn nice play by Blake DeWitt in the first. Looks like a third baseman to me.

Nice leap by Gathright over Kuroda. Props to the announcers for having seen Gathright do the same thing, but over cars on youtube

HOME RUN ETHIER! Bite me, Pierre.

Tony, the stadium in Surprise is one of my favorites of the AZ Spring Training sites. Hopefully the Dodgers' new stadium in Glendale will be just as nice. For one thing, they were smart enough to design the main seating area to be in full shade during all those day games.

Mikey, you really can't be serious?!? I think tonights performance already, being in only the 4th inning, shows how much Ethier really deserves to start over Pierre. You must, like another blogger said, must be a giant fan.

Tony, I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here, and this is a completely serious question.

Do you think, after tonights performance (even though the game is still in progress--I think it is safe to say Ethier, by nights end, will have had a pretty good game) that Torre is now favoring starting Ethier over Pierre?

I read that Pierre is upset about not getting enough playing time, but then I find out he has the most at-bats this spring of any player in the league. I know that number might be inflated since Pierre doesn't walk, and I know it is only spring training, but it sounds to me that Pierre is making excuses for his poor play.

The Dodgers really do need the bat of Ethier over Pierre, and I know Pierre is making millions more than Ethier, but does Torre and Colletti think that Dodger fans would prefer to see the richest team on the field compared to the best team on the field?

Sounds like Mikey needs to get his meds right. Only the very drug-addled or just plain delusional would want Slappy to play on any Dodger team.

Slappy hasn't reached first four times in the last five or six games. Ethier did it in one. What is not to like? Ethier is hitting, he is getting on base and he is playing great defense. Don't know what Mikey is talking about regarding the last game, but I think he should just say no.

What is Marcel Lachman doing? I've never been impressed with Honeycutt. Now after Billingsley got it together last year...Rickie boy is messing with him about where he puts his foot on the rubber?? Who is that guy with #55 on his back impersonating Russell Martin? With the high pollen count in Arizona this spring, is Loney overdosing on allergy meds?

It's only spring training, and stats this time of year can be deceiving. But Ethier has nearly two solid regular seasons behind him, so the following combined with a solid track record is a stong argument for him to being the starting leftfielder to open the season.

I have suspected for a while that Ethier had serious power potential, and so far I like what I see. Last year he spent the winter rehabbing his shoulder, and probably never had an opportunity to focus on simply getting stronger. That wasn't the case this past winter. Combine that with another year of maturity, and Ethier is probably a lot stronger than he' been.

In previous years, when Andre hit balls to the opposite field they often died on the warning track. That doesn't appear to be the case this year, as demonstrated by last nights homer, which flew out in leftfield. Yes, the game was played in Arizona where the air is light, but I'm impressed nevertheless. He clearly appears to be a stronger hitter than he's been in the past.

Guys, Mikey is a troll....don't feed 'em.

E-thi-er (Ito)

Little backup outfielder Andre E-thi-er.

He will not start for LA in 2008.

Look, listen and learn from Mikey.

RE: Saito
C'mon -- we all know you're the only real pain in the ass in Dodgers' camp, Tony.
Well, you and that Joel Rawitch guy.

I think Randy Wolfe is going to come back to haunt the Dodgers. He had a pretty good year last year. The first full year back from surgery is uaually a little tender. With that under his belt...and Bud Black....I think he is going to have a good year. He looked great going 6 against the Angels. I think Larry Bowa is going to have to wake up the troops.

The young hitters seem to have forgotten all they learned from Bill Mueller about taking pitches and working the pitchers. They can't wait to swing....off speed pitches are killing them.
