Dodgers LF having a great game
If you're watching the game on ESPN, you have no doubt noticed it. He is 2 for 3 with a stolen base and a bunt single and has made two nice catches, one of which was a spectacular diving catch over by the line. Not sure who that is playing out there today ... wait, let's see, let me just check my scorecard here ... looks like it's ... hey, wow, it's Juan Pierre. Imagine that. ... Dodgers are hitless in six ABs with men in scoring position, but none of those ABs were by Pierre. Only run came on a homer by Kemp. ... Red Sox 5, Dodgers 1, top 6

Comments
I heard one of the ESPN commentators remark about what a bad arm Pierre has.

Yes, he does have a bad arm. And he just GIDP'd, his last act before leaving the game.

Imagine that indeed. He also has no walks and one extra base hit. If you want to cherry-pick single games, let's talk about his 0-for-3 and 0-for-4 in his first two games. It's a long spring, and Juan Pierre is a worse player than Andre Ethier, bunt and seeing-eye singles aside.
I invite everyone to continue this discussion all season long at Garciapierra:

the ceasefire didn't last too long, huh? just saying....

So, Kemp is responsible for generating 1 run, Pierre is responsible for generating 0 runs. Why do we want to platoon Kemp with Ethier again?

It's instructive to note that when this LF has a good game, it's such a rare and noteworthy occurrence that it's worthy of its own post. Whereas, if Ethier has a great game -- an even more spectacular game than Pierre's game today -- it rates only a passing mention in the larger story, as in the Washington game the other day.

Heck, look at the Repko!! Great guy, goes out all the time, comes early, got good speed, runs down everything, and even has a great throwing arm. I hear the Mets are interested in a guy that plays everyday.

Ray, I just said I wouldn't RESPOND to anyone's comments. I never said I wouldn't initiate (agitate).

He is 2 for 3 with a stolen base and a bunt single and has made two nice catches ... off guys who'll be bagging groceries in a couple of weeks.
Fixed.

Dodgers need power. Not that Ethier is a great power threat, but I can't think of any OF's--or many position players for that matter that have as little of power as Pierre brings. He's not even a threat at reaching base all that much--the better leadoff hitters have roughly a .380 OBP. The Dodgers already have Furcal to lead off. Show me a team that has two all speed, little/no power leadoff guys, and I'll show you a team that will not go anywhere in the playoffs. Give it to Ethier. Geez, I'd rather see Repko get LF over Pierre.

Good job Tony. I can appreciate your opinion. Just not your logic.

Tony, you're a tool!

Ethier, Jones, Kemp. So easy even a caveman could do it

Furcal
Martin
Loney
Jones
Kemp
Kent
Ethier
LaRoche
So easy, even a non-supposed HOF manager could do it.

Wow 2 hits in the spring, what does that prove? If Pierre starts and takes at bats away form Eithier that's bad enough , but if he takes at bats away from Kemp that should be illegal! Play the better player not the most expensive mistake.
