LaRoche to miss eight to 10 weeks

He has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb and will need surgery, which Ned said will take place in the next couple of days, probably in Los Angeles. No word yet on how this will affect the roster makeup, other than it pretty much guarantees Nomar will begin the season as the everyday 3B. As for a backup, could be any number of guys: Tony Abreu or Ramon Martinez, both of whom have extensive experience at the position, or Delwyn Young or Chin-lung Hu, neither of whom has ever played there but have good enough hands that they likely could adjust quickly. At any rate, this is devastating news for LaRoche, a really good guy who has had his share of bad breaks and injury issues during his career.

Tough break for the kid. Over/under on Nomar's first DL stint now: May 15.

Poor LaRoche and poor Dodgers' fans

Funny how every year when you think you have too many players for positions available that things even out in the end.

Damn.

It's so ridiculous how unlucky the Dodgers have been the last several seasons when it comes to injuries. Can anyone remember the last spring training (let alone season) LA had where there wasn't a season-altering injury? Werth, Gagne, Furcal, Repko, Schmidt, and now LaRoche. It never ends!

So, let's see, so far this spring (in less than 3 weeks), LA's had at least 9 minor-to-major injuries: Kuo, Furcal, Kent, Abreu, LaRoche, Seanez, Saito, Billingsley, Schmidt.

I just hope Ned doesn't panic and pull the trigger on a guy like Inge.

Life is unfair.

Don't trade for Inge!!!!

PLEASE tell me this doesn't mean we're getting Inge. Do you have any idea how much validity there is to that rumor, and what this injury might mean for that?

We may not be able to agree on Pierre, but I hope we can agree that getting Brandon Inge is the worst possible thing they could do in response to this.

Dave Regan--like the post. Any over/under on Nomar's first HR, or extra base hit?

Time for a trade. How does Scott Proctor for Wilson Betemit sound?

Can Juan Pierre play 3rd base???

By the way Tony...love the blog.

Thanks.

Terrible news for the Dodgers. 3rd base is supposed to be a power position and we could have used Andy there. Now it's up to Nomar and he's fading fast. To me this means that the Dodgers need to find more power in the lineup. How about starting that guy Eithier in left?

Will LaRoche be on the major league team or moved back to a farm team, as of Game 1?

and to assist them in those losses and misfortunes which might free captain jack sparrow myspace layouts capital to cultivate them and their produce replaces, with a profit not fvwrjutois
