The last day at Dodgertown
It's a bit of a zoo already here today, New York Times, USA Today and ESPN are here, and one of the parking lot guards told me this morning that he heard a piece about it on NPR this morning. Looks like it's going to be be a perfect day, about 80 degrees, no clouds, and I'm sure there will be a lot of pomp and circumstance for the game, both pregame and postgame. I'll update later. ... Kyle Blair, whom the Dodgers drafted in the fifth round last summer but didn't sign, struck out a school-record 16 batters for the University of San Diego yesterday in a 15-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo. Before that, the freshman right-hander was 0-3.

Tony Jackson has covered the Dodgers for the Daily News since 2004 and has covered Major League Baseball on a regular basis since 1995. He previously covered the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds. He is a native of Springdale, Ark., and a graduate of the University of Arkansas.

I hope you (and everyone involved) have a great day closing out Vero today. I was there this time last week for the first time, and I regret that I had not gone in previous years.
By the way, did you find my message under your name tag in the press box? (And no, I didn't write the one on the name tag itself.)

This just in off the sports wire: Juan Pierre STILL bites.

Tony-I would hope Andre Ethier's name is in the title to your article tomorrow morning. Maybe something to the effect of
"How can Torre NOT start Ethier in LF?"
Please ask Torre this question when he returns.
tks
Ray

But Pierre can run and is a veteran. Who cares if Ethier is hitting .354 with a team-leading five homers?

Well...
Considering the way the Dodgers did their best to mishandle Loney after the way he performed in 2006 and spring 2007, I'm sure Ethier's name will soon be on a Southwest Airline's manifest to Las Vegas in the near future.
In fact, I would actually keep Repko and Delwyn Young on the roster as the 4th and 5th OF'ers and DFA Pierre regardless of salary, for speed or not, he's a detriment to the lineup, both at bat and in the field.
