Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 3
After Eric Byrnes' two-run single off Kuroda with two outs in the sixth gave the Snakes the lead, the Dodgers got just one more hit, a weakly hit infield single by Andruw Jones leading off the seventh. Dodgers went hitless in eight at-bats with RISP, all of which came in the first five innings. It's only eight games -- as we were reminded repeatedly in the clubhouse after the game -- but if these guys don't get out of this funk soon, they're going to be in serious trouble in the standings. ... Kuroda threw 108 pitches, 31 more than he threw in his first start, and he clearly ran out of gas at the end. Not one Dodgers starter made it into the seventh inning on this second time through the rotation. ... After covering what must have been close to 60 games in this park since it opened in 1998, I can honestly say today was the first time I saw a day game here with the roof open. It gave the place a whole new look and feel, and it actually felt like we were in a ballpark instead of a gigantic airplane hangar. By the time we come back in July, it'll be triple digits here, so no chance the roof is open then. ... Dodgers fall to 4-5, under .500 for the first time this year, and three games behind the Snakes in the NL West. This was one ugly three-game sweep.

And let me add this reminder: It's only 9 games.
Don't think that at some point during the season the D-backs won't lose 3 (or more ) in a row. It just seems worse at the beginning of the season.
At some point (hopefully soon) the Dodgers will begin to hit. If they don't, then they really will be in trouble. However, there is truth to the cliche, "IT'S A LONG SEASON". I refuse to panic this early.

Interesting that Kemp played center today instead of Pierre. It appears as if Pierre will be confined to left-field this year whenever he plays. That would indicate that Torre is confident that Kemp can handle center, and that in games that Jones is given the day off, DY could be in the mix to start in left.

Joe P.,
I hope this was an error of some sort, although I can't imagine how. So, what's the point?

I'm a friend of Joe's and I can vouch for him. He obviously had a refresh error or something to that effect. He meant no harm...

Explanation accepted. Computers do strange things at times. No harm done.

Tony, it was sad to see the Dodgers getting swept, but it was just one of those series and it's still right at the beginning of the season. I thought it was only overly pessimistic fans who are allowed to be so unduly negative this early in the season? I know you've been through baseball seasons before, so you know there are 162 games, a lot of streaks, winning and losing. And that the Dodgers have a new manager who had to deal with a weirdly discombobulating spring training as intro to his team. I expected the Dodgers to be around .500 for the first couple of weeks at least and lo! here they are. When things get on track they'll have as much a chance as anyone. I'm not being Pollyannaish, I know they have their work cut out for them. But to be so morose this early seems patently unrealistic, too.
