Nomar on the mend
He is taking regular BP and ground balls today, and throwing across the diamond. Says he still feels pain, but that he's going to feel pain no matter what -- ``I'm a baseball player,'' he said. Torre says if all goes well, Nomar could be ready for a rehab by this weekend. He didn't say where, but Inland Empire is playing at High Desert, which is probably the closest option, while Vegas is at Sacramento. ... Delwyn Young looks like he got stitches, but he didn't. The skin just above his eye was pulled back and taped up, giving the appearance of stitches, but it was done to keep his right eye unobstructed because the swelling had begun to cause his eye to close. He is available to play tonight, and he is feeling much better. ... Andruw Jones did NOT take early BP as scheduled because this is the Snakes' home opener, and the Dodgers couldn't get the field. ... Torre had a talk with Matt Kemp for the second day in a row, promising him he'll be in the lineup tomorrow night against Doug Davis.

Tony Jackson has covered the Dodgers for the Daily News since 2004 and has covered Major League Baseball on a regular basis since 1995. He previously covered the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds. He is a native of Springdale, Ark., and a graduate of the University of Arkansas.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for Nomar to displace Blake.

Nomar will take over 3rd immediately. Blake still has minor league development in his future.

too bad. I was enjoying the defense at 3rd that won't be happening once Mr. Glass returns.

DeWitt still has a couple weeks of campaigning to do. It's up to him. If he's even hitting .250 and getting on base at all, he'll still play enough to make it worthwhile having him here.

What we have on our hands here is a trend. Or at least the beginnings of one. Giving up four runs in the bottom of the first while facing an ace is not a good way to go about a season.
Bummer.

Vinny has a man crush on Eric Byrnes. Reminds me of what the Mets used to call Gary Carter. "Lights," as in "lights, camera, action."

Maybe it is time to sit Andruw. The fat-boy has looked over matched all season. Get someone behind Ethier who can do something!!

I just hope he snaps out of it soon. He had been playing solid defense but then he let that ball get by him and to the wall.
No excuse for not getting the runner on third home when there's less than 2 outs. That is why he got that big contract...but it is still early and I hope he starts earning that check.

Jones can't sit!! Are you kidding me? We're just about to get Pierre out of the lineup and Kemp into it. What, you want Pierre to spell Andruw now?!!!

I have got to wonder what was worse, Slappy's 0-4 or Andruw's 0-4, but then I fall back to Loaiza's start and it is a no brainer. Loaiza smelled up the place first, so he gets the Golden Raspberry.
I hope this is the last time in April that I see Slappy in the starting lineup. The only time he should play is when we are up by double digits.

I love that he seems to fly out (and nullify his speed) when no one is on base but GDIP when runners are on. But...we'll get 'em tomorrow!
