Barney, Rodriguez, Baez, Garcia make Dodgers’ Opening Day roster

Relief pitchers Paco Rodgiguez, Yimi Garcia and Pedro Baez won the last three spots in the Dodgers bullpen when the final 25-man roster was announced after Saturday night’s final exhibition game. The trio beat out David Aardsma, David Huff and Sergio Santos.

Infielder Darwin Barney won the only other position seemingly in doubt while Kike Hernandez was ironically optioned to Triple-A minutes after the rookie hit the game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning of the Dodgers 6-6 tie with the Angels Saturday night in the final exhibition game before the regular season begins on Monday.

Yasiel Puig uninjured after collision with Kendrick

ANAHEIM – Yasiel Puig wasn’t injured when he collided with second baseman Howie Kendrick in the fifth inning of the Dodgers 3-2 loss to the Angels Thursday night.

The Dodgers right fielder was removed from the game for precautionary reasons after Kendrick’s upper arm appeared to strike Puig in the neck. Both were chasing a flare by Mike Trout in short right field, but Puig didn’t call off Kendrick until the last second, according to Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.

“There hasn’t been any trouble out there all spring,” Mattingly said. “It was just one of those things. I don’t know if Yasiel didn’t think he could call it early enough. I mean you can’t call for it until you know you’ve got it, so everybody keeps coming until the end. And obviously with him calling it late, Howie’s going to keep going and he’s going to have trouble stopping…That’s when it gets dangerous.”

Mike Adams leaves Dodgers but reliever won’t report to Triple-A

Dodgers reliever Mike Adams was supposed to start Thursday’s Freeway Series opener against the Angels three days before the regular season begins.

Instead the Dodgers right-hander left the team and won’t report to Triple-A, according to Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. Adams, 36, may be leaning toward retirement after being informed on Tuesday he wouldn’t be on the Opening Day roster. Mattingly wouldn’t confirm plans that Adams will retire.

“I would never say that for someone, but he’s going home for now,” Mattingly said. “He’s not going to report to Triple-A, at least not at this point. Anything could change. I’m a little uncomfortable talking about his career and what he would do, but for now he’s leaving spring training.”
